Yesterday was a day for celebrating because it was my 8th birthday since having breast cancer. Each year, I recognize how significant and important birthdays are because they are a special time to be grateful for the gift of each day and, more importantly, another 365 days of sharing with all the important people in my life. The American Cancer Society has a campaign that they have called “the official sponsor of birthdays” and for that, this is one survivor who is very thankful for adding another candle to the cake. Yes there are a few more wrinkles, dark circles and other changes that come with adding another year to the chart, but I like to view them as ‘lifelines’ defining the treasures of life: like moments laughing, smiling and especially loving and enjoying God’s beautiful creation in the form of family members, friends and nature. So don’t stress over turning another year older because aging is beautiful and it’s certainly better than the alternative.
